How to care for my Nomad x Orbitkey Key Organiser?Updated 2 years ago

Since leather is a natural material, it’s normal to change over time with daily use and wear. The Horween Leather is made in the traditional style dating back to 1905 in Chicago, Illinois. Most leathers use synthetic tanning chemicals, synthetic dyes, spray paints, or spray sealants to create a "perfect" surface, but the Nomad’s hallmark Horween Leather is minimally treated, vegetable-tanned, imbued with natural waxes and oils, and the surface isn’t sprayed with a synthetic sealant, allowing it to develop a beautiful, natural patina over time with daily use as the leather is exposed to the natural oils from your hands.

Because the Horween Leather we use is so minimally treated, the leather is expected to take on some marks from use. But with continued use and even a little extra care using a leather conditioner, these marks will mellow. As the leather fully develops its patina over the next couple of months, it’ll become more protective against scratches and scuffs in the future.

Treating your Horween Leather band with a high-quality leather conditioner can bring it back to life after just a few treatments and really help to speed up the patination process of the leather.

What’s the difference between the Nomad x Orbitkey Key Organiser and your other Leather Key Organiser range?

The use of Horween Leather, which is an Orbitkey first:

The Nomad x Orbitkey Key Organiser features Nomad’s hallmark minimally treated, vegetable-tanned Horween Leather.

Vegetable-tanned leather is the tannage or method of tanning cowhide into leather. It’s called “vegetable” because of the natural tannins used in the tanning process, like tree bark. Vegetable tanning, or veg tan as it’s sometimes called, is one of the oldest methods of tanning known to man. It has literally been around for centuries. But less than 10% of the world's leather is tanned this way today.

What makes vegetable tanning so unique is it results in more body and character. Vegetable-tanned leather also ages better and develops a rich patina, or a dark lustrous sheen, over time. And it has that awesome classic leather smell.

Sleek and rugged finish:

Being a more natural finish, the Horween Leather on the Nomad x Orbitkey Key Organiser will readily take on oils from your hands. It will be influenced more by its environment and the things it interacts with.

You can think of it more like a really nice leather wallet or watch band that will become nicely worn with age.

Seamless, no-stitch:

The Nomad x Orbitkey Key Organiser features a rolled edge construction, meaning that even the edge is leather and no edge paint is used, furthering the seamless minimal style Nomad is known for.

How durable is the Stainless Steel D-ring?

This custom-designed stainless steel hardware has been thoroughly tested for strength and can withstand pull forces well beyond 5kg. The ring has facets and chamfers that mirror Nomad’s buckle designs.

Will my keys/key fob fit onto the keyring?

Most keys will fit without any issue as long as the hole on your key is greater than 4mm in diameter, it has a flat profile, and the key length is shorter than 67mm (from the hole to the end of the key). This rule also applies to keys where the holes are irregular in shape (e.g. slot, square, triangular).

Some key fobs (e.g. apartment fobs, bicycle lock keys) will fit in the Key Organiser, but it will depend on the shape of the fob and the size of the keyhole as long as it's relatively flat and not too thick.

For your longest key, we'd recommend placing it in the middle of the stack for a better fit (except for Mortice Keys).
